Finding the Perfect Family Tour

Hi, I’m Mark Johnson, a dad of two curious explorers — Emma (12) and Lucas (9). My wife, Sarah, and I had long dreamed of showing our kids a world where the history they read in books comes alive before their eyes. We wanted a trip that was both educational and adventurous, without being exhausting for a family.

After weeks of searching, reading reviews, and comparing tour packages, we discovered Memphis Tours and their Pyramids, Abu Simbel, Nile Cruise & Jordan Tour. It was exactly what we’d been looking for — a family-friendly Egypt and Jordan tour that combined legendary landmarks, smooth logistics, and family comfort.

From the moment I contacted their team, I felt reassured. They customized our accommodations, adjusted our pace, and even gave us tips for traveling with kids. When we landed in Cairo, we weren’t just excited — we were ready for the family adventure of a lifetime.
One of things that encouraged me to book with Memphis Tours was the reviews of the previous travellers We traveled with Memphis Tours last summer, and it was the smoothest family trip we’ve ever had. Every guide treated us like old friends. We’re already saving up for our next adventure! — The Peterson Family, USA. I completely convinced by the quote, I made the reservation instantly, and the resulting family trip was immensely worthwhile.

Our Unforgettable Family Journey: from egypt to jordan

Day 1 – Arrival in Cairo: Welcome to the Land of Pharaohs

After a long flight from London, we were met at Cairo Airport by a cheerful Memphis Tours representative holding a sign with our family name. He breezed us through visa formalities, collected our bags, and even had juice boxes ready for the kids. Traveling with children can be tricky, but they made it effortless.

We drove to our 5-star hotel overlooking the Nile, where the kids were fascinated by the boats gliding under the city lights. That evening, we took a gentle walk along the river promenade. The air smelled of roasted corn and jasmine, and Lucas asked if the pyramids were “just around the corner.”

From our balcony, we could see Cairo sparkling — ancient and alive. It was the perfect welcome to Egypt.

Day 2 – The Pyramids and the Grand Egyptian Museum

This was the day we’d all been waiting for — the Great Pyramids of Giza. Standing before them, Emma whispered, “They’re even bigger than I imagined.” Our guide, Ahmed, was incredible with the kids. He told stories about the pharaohs’ lives, explained how the stones were hauled, and even showed Lucas how to find his “lucky scarab” in the sand.

We climbed onto camels for a short ride across the plateau, the pyramids towering in the background. Sarah laughed as her camel decided to wander off course, and Ahmed caught it just in time — it became one of our favorite family stories.

After exploring the Sphinx, we visited the Grand Egyptian Museum — a stunning, modern space filled with ancient wonders. The kids were fascinated by the treasures of Tutankhamun, while Sarah admired the museum’s design and interactive exhibits.

By evening, we were tired but glowing. Over dinner by the Nile, we agreed this was already one of the best days of our lives.

Day 3 – Fly to Aswan: Temples, Feluccas, and Nile Magic

Early the next morning, we boarded a short flight to Aswan, where our friendly guide welcomed us with a big smile. The city felt calmer than Cairo — warm breezes, palm trees, and the serene Nile stretching endlessly.

We began with visits to the High Dam and the elegant Philae Temple, dedicated to the goddess Isis. The kids were amazed when we reached the temple by motorboat, gliding between islands. Ahmed shared stories about how it was rescued from the rising waters of Lake Nasser — Emma listened wide-eyed.

By afternoon, we boarded our Nile cruise ship, our floating home for the next few days. Watching feluccas sail by at sunset, with mint tea in hand and the kids playing cards on deck, I couldn’t imagine a more peaceful family moment.

Day 4 – Abu Simbel Adventure

This day was an early start — but absolutely worth it. We left at dawn for the Abu Simbel Temples, driving through desert landscapes glowing pink and gold. When we arrived, the sight was breathtaking — four colossal statues of Ramses II carved into the mountainside, towering over us.

Our guide explained the fascinating story of how these temples were relocated piece by piece to save them from flooding. Emma was amazed by the precision of the engineering, while Lucas kept pretending to be “King Ramses” giving orders.

On the way back to Aswan, we stopped for Nubian souvenirs, and the kids bought handmade bracelets. Back aboard the cruise, we relaxed over lunch, and later that evening, enjoyed a lively Nubian music night with drums and dancing. Emma even joined the musicians — it was unforgettable.

Day 5 – Kom Ombo and Edfu Temples

Sailing down the Nile was pure magic. Our first stop was Kom Ombo Temple, dedicated to Sobek, the crocodile god. The kids couldn’t believe their eyes when they saw the mummified crocodiles in the museum.

Then we continued to Edfu, where a horse-drawn carriage took us through the streets to the Temple of Horus. The towering columns, detailed carvings, and huge statues made the kids gasp in awe. Our guide explained the legends of Horus, turning history into a live story.

Back on the ship, the chef invited the children to help make Egyptian bread — they loved it! That night, the cruise hosted an Egyptian Galabeya Party, and we all dressed in traditional outfits, laughing and dancing with other families. It was one of those evenings that felt timeless — filled with joy, color, and connection.

Day 6 – Luxor: The Valley of the Kings and Temple Treasures

We woke up in Luxor, where ancient Egypt’s splendor awaited. Our morning began on the West Bank with the Valley of the Kings, where we explored several tombs, including one filled with vibrant hieroglyphs that left Emma speechless. Lucas kept counting how many steps down each tomb went!

Next was the stunning Temple of Queen Hatshepsut — carved right into the cliffs. Emma loved hearing about Egypt’s powerful female pharaoh and declared she’d write a school project about her.

After lunch, we visited the Temple of Karnak and later Luxor Temple, both architectural marvels that glowed golden at sunset. By evening, we were exhausted but exhilarated — our time on the Nile had been unforgettable.

Day 7 – Disembarkation and Fly Back to Cairo

After breakfast, we said goodbye to our wonderful cruise crew and flew back to Cairo. The day was relaxed and unhurried — a nice breather after so much sightseeing.

We spent the afternoon wandering Khan El Khalili Bazaar, Egypt’s most colorful marketplace. Emma found silver earrings shaped like lotuses, and Lucas bought a tiny model of the Sphinx. Sarah and I enjoyed a last mint tea while watching the lively rhythm of Cairo unfold around us. That night, as we packed our bags for Jordan, we realized just how smoothly everything had gone. Memphis Tours had thought of everything — it felt like traveling with friends, not just guides.

Day 8 – Fly to Amman: Hello, Jordan

The next morning, we flew to Amman, Jordan’s vibrant capital. Another smiling Memphis Tours rep greeted us, helping with immigration and transfers in record time.

In the afternoon, we explored the Amman Citadel, a hilltop site overlooking the entire city. The kids ran between ancient columns and Roman ruins, fascinated by the mix of history and modern life below. The golden sunset bathed Amman in a warm glow that felt magical.

Dinner was at a local restaurant serving falafel, hummus, and kunafa, Jordan’s famous dessert. The kids were quiet for a moment, then Lucas said, “Dad, Jordan smells like cinnamon and adventure.” He wasn’t wrong.

Day 9 – Jerash and Dead Sea Tour

If Egypt felt ancient, Jerash felt alive. The Roman city’s colonnaded streets, amphitheater, and temples were astonishing. Our guide turned history into a game — asking the kids to find carvings of eagles and crowns. Lucas loved clapping in the amphitheater to hear the echo bounce back.

From there, we drove to the Dead Sea, where the fun really began. The kids couldn’t believe they could float without swimming! Sarah and I joined them, laughing as we smeared mineral mud on our faces and watched the sun dip low over the still waters.
That evening, as we sat by the pool with fresh lemonade, I realized this trip had given us more than memories — it had given us connection.

Day 10 – Petra and Wadi Rum: Wonders of the Desert

This was the grand finale — and it didn’t disappoint. We set out early for Petra, walking through the narrow Siq until the Treasury suddenly appeared, glowing rose-red in the morning light. Emma gasped, “It looks like magic!” and she was right.

We explored the tombs, temples, and ancient streets. The kids even rode donkeys up to the Monastery — their laughter echoing off the canyon walls. Our guide shared stories about Petra’s rediscovery that made history come alive.

After lunch, we continued to Wadi Rum, where vast red dunes stretched to the horizon. We took a short jeep tour, stopping for photos that looked straight out of a movie. As the sun set, painting the desert in gold and crimson, Sarah whispered, “This might be the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen.” That night, under a sky filled with stars, we all agreed — this was the adventure of a lifetime.

Day 11 – Farewell, Jordan

On our final morning, we packed our bags with heavy hearts. Emma tucked away her souvenirs, Lucas hugged his stuffed camel “Pharaoh,” and Sarah and I just smiled — proud, grateful, and full of wonder.

At the airport, our Memphis Tours representative was there again, helping with our departure. As we waved goodbye, I thought about how flawlessly everything had unfolded — every moment filled with meaning, joy, and care. As the plane lifted off, I whispered to Sarah, “We’ll be back — maybe Morocco next time.” She nodded. “As long as it’s with Memphis Tours.”

Our Family Travel Tips – Lessons from Experience

After traveling across Egypt and Jordan with two kids in tow, we learned a few things that made all the difference. First — book early. We planned our trip three months ahead, and it gave Memphis Tours enough time to arrange the perfect balance between sightseeing and rest days. They even customized our hotel rooms so that Emma and Lucas had their own connecting space, which was a game-changer for family harmony.

We also discovered the magic of packing light but smart. With all the moving between cities, cruises, and flights, minimal luggage kept us sane. Breathable fabrics, sun hats, sunscreen, and sturdy walking shoes quickly became our best friends. And believe me, keeping snacks and refillable water bottles close saved us more than once — kids get hungry and thirsty at the most unpredictable times, especially after exploring ancient tombs or climbing temple stairs.

Another tip? Let the guides work their magic. They’re storytellers who know exactly how to engage children. Watching Lucas’ eyes widen as our guide described the gods of Egypt, or seeing Emma proudly explain what she learned about Queen Hatshepsut, reminded me that travel teaches more than any classroom can.

We also made it a habit to carry small bills for tips and souvenirs — it made transactions simple and supported local craftspeople we met along the way. And above all, the biggest lesson of all: trust Memphis Tours. They handled every transfer, meal, and small detail so smoothly that we could focus entirely on being present as a family. We didn’t have to worry about a thing — just enjoy the laughter, the history, and the countless “wow” moments that made this trip unforgettable.

What We Missed (and Will Do Next Time)

We wished we had more time to spend in Wadi Rum — maybe even an overnight desert camp under the stars. It’s on our list for “Egypt and Jordan Part 2.” Luckily, Memphis Tours’ loyalty program gives returning travelers 10% off the next trip, and we’re already planning our return.

Why We’ll Travel with Memphis Tours Again

Memphis Tours didn’t just plan our trip — they crafted a family experience that felt personal, easy, and unforgettable. The guides were caring, the pacing was perfect, and every moment felt tailored to us. Their reward program seals the deal: we’ll definitely travel with them again, maybe to Morocco or Turkey next year.
