Egypt and Petra Tour

Arrive at Cairo International Airport, where your Memphis Tours representative meets you inside the terminal, assists with passport control and baggage, and escorts you to your air-conditioned vehicle.

Transfer to your hotel, where your representative reviews the week ahead with you — the three Cairo days, the flight to Amman, and the two Jordan touring days that follow. The remainder of the day is at leisure.

Head out with your English-speaking driver to Mount Nebo, the ridge from which Moses is said to have looked out over the Promised Land — on a clear day you can see across the Jordan Valley to the hills beyond.

Continue to Madaba and St George's Church, where a sixth-century mosaic floor map of the Holy Land survives in remarkable detail. After lunch, descend to the Dead Sea, the lowest point on earth, to float in water so dense you cannot sink, and try the mineral mud along the shore.

Good to Know: Today is driver-led rather than guided; site information is available on arrival. Dead Sea practicalities: don't shave within 24 hours beforehand, keep your head above water, don't get the water in your eyes, and rinse thoroughly in fresh water afterward. The salt is hard on swimwear and jewellery. Bring sandals — the shore is stony.

An early start for the drive south to Petra, around two and a half hours each way through the Jordanian highlands.

At the site, walk down to the entrance and through the Siq — a gorge over a kilometre long, its walls rising sheer on both sides — until it opens without warning onto the Treasury facade carved into the rock. With your local Petra guide you explore the Nabataean tombs and facades of the city centre before walking back out through the Siq.

Optional Premium Experience: Short horseback rides between the visitor centre and the Siq entrance are available at the site, subject to availability, and are entirely optional. The same stretch is an easy walk on level ground.
Good to Know: This is the most demanding day of the itinerary. Around 700 m from the entrance to the Siq, then roughly 1.2 km through the gorge, and the same distance back — a minimum of 4 km on foot, on uneven stone, with around five hours of driving. Wear proper walking shoes and carry water. In summer, Petra is very hot with little shade; start early and pace yourself. Guests with limited mobility should discuss options with us before booking.

Enjoy breakfast and a final morning in Amman. Depending on your flight time, luggage storage can be arranged at the hotel should you wish a last look at the city.

Your vehicle and representative collect you at the appointed time and transfer you to Queen Alia International Airport, where you are assisted through check-in for your onward flight.
