Yes. Both markets need a B1/B2 visitor visa, and neither is eligible for ESTA. Tell people to apply early because interview wait times can be long, especially in India. Explain whether you provide an invitation or support letter and a confirmed itinerary for the application.
For India, tie it to Diwali, summer vacation (May–June) and honeymoon season. For China, tie it to Golden Week (October) and Chinese New Year. Mention the weather by region: East Coast, West Coast and national parks.
Cards are used almost everywhere in the US. UnionPay works in some places, while Alipay and WeChat Pay are limited. Indian cards need international usage switched on. Advise carrying some USD cash for tips.
