Interesting Facts about Maasai Mara

The Maasai Mara is one of Kenya’s most renowned and frequently visited wildlife reserves, celebrated for its incredible landscapes and abundant wildlife. It also gained international recognition as one of the filming locations for Out of Africa.

The reserve is home to a remarkable variety of animals, including Africa’s iconic Big Five. One of its most spectacular natural events is the Great Migration, when millions of wildebeest, zebras, and gazelles journey from Tanzania’s Serengeti across the border and the Mara River in search of fresh grazing grounds, typically beginning around late June.

Bird enthusiasts will also find plenty to admire, with around 450 bird species recorded in the reserve. From thrilling wildlife encounters to breathtaking scenery, Maasai Mara offers exceptional safari opportunities, with early-morning and late-afternoon game drives being essential experiences for visitors.

Continue your Kenya tour this morning as you head to Lake Nakuru National Park, a shallow alkaline lake famous worldwide for its massive flocks of flamingos, which can turn the waters into a shimmering pink spectacle. The park is home to a remarkable variety of wildlife, including leopards often seen resting in the branches of striking yellow-barked acacias, as well as lions, buffaloes, hippos, waterbucks, warthogs, baboons, and the endangered Rothschild’s giraffe, found only in this park in Kenya. Visitors may also spot the white rhino and the rare black rhino, both carefully protected within the park.

After breakfast at the Lake Nakuru, bid farewell to Lake Nakuru as you set on your journey back to Nairobi. You will arrive in Kenya's bustling capital city Nairobi in the early afternoon where you will be transferred to the Jomo Kenyatta International airport for your departure flight back home.
