Arusha, the gateway to the world-famous game sanctuaries of Serengeti, Ngorongoro, Tarangire and Lake Manyara, is one of the oldest towns in Tanzania. From a tiny German garrison in 1900, Arusha has grown to become the tourist capital of Tanzania with a population of about 400,000 people. At 1,540 meters above sea level, Arusha enjoys a very agreeable climate throughout the year. Positioned at the center of Africa between the Cape and Cairo on the Great North Road, Arusha is the administrative seat of the East African Community made up of Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda.

After breakfast, your driver-guide will pick you up to continue your 9-Day Uganda & Tanzania Tour, heading to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park with a short stop at the Equator.

A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Bwindi is one of the most biologically diverse forests in Africa, home to about 350 mountain gorillas, nearly half of the world’s population. It’s also a top spot for birdwatching, recognized by the African Bird Club.

Upon arrival, check in to your lodge and, if time permits, enjoy optional activities such as a Batwa cultural visit to learn about the forest’s original inhabitants or visit the Changing Life Women Project for a glimpse into local community life.

Start your morning early with a hearty breakfast to prepare for the exciting Gorilla Tracking experience. Report to the Uganda Wildlife Authority ranger station by 8 AM for registration and briefing before beginning your trek. The hike, lasting 3–6 hours, requires moderate fitness and sturdy walking shoes as rangers guide you through villages and dense forest in search of gorillas.

Under 24-hour monitoring, gorilla families are almost always seen. To protect them from human diseases, a 7-meter distance must be maintained. Once found, you’ll leave your belongings and spend a magical hour observing these gentle giants, watching families interact, play, and rest, guided by expert rangers interpreting their behavior.

After your unforgettable encounter, if time allows, visit the Batwa tribe, the forest’s original inhabitants, to learn about their rich culture.
